EXPECTATIONS

Treatment is a collaborative effort between Autism Partnership and parents, as well as schools and other agencies providing services. Your contribution is critical to the effectiveness of intervention. Therefore, we ask parents to participate in the therapy process. The following are our expectations:

1. Participate in a portion of therapy sessions

2. Participate in parent training sessions

3. Attend clinics (team meetings)

4. Available for a portion of therapy sessions without any distractions

5. Open communication

6. Conduct therapy outside of therapy

7. Video tape home therapy sessions

8. Actively participate in setting up play dates

9. Obtain materials and reinforcers

10. Review the notebook

11. One parent or designee should be at home during therapy

 

FACTORS THAT GOOD PROGRAMS HAVE IN COMMON

1. Consistency inside and outside of therapy

2. Minimum of two hours per week of supervision

3. Parents and staff at all meetings

4. Training of new staff occurs prior to treatment

5. Parental appreciation of therapy team

6. Pleasant working environment

7. Discussing problems with supervisor

8. Not comparing children

9. Not comparing staff

10. Appreciating different therapists' styles

11. Parental participation in a portion of therapy sessions

12. Open communication among all members of team
