Advanced Workshops These workshops are intended for professionals having at least one (1) year of experience utilizing A.B.A. (Applied Behavior Analysis) in the workplace. Prospective applicants must display a firm theoretical knowledge of A.B.A. guidelines and tenets. The following professional qualities will also be considered when determining attendance: an overall belief and enthusiasm for A.B.A.; an eagerness to learn more detailed A.B.A. application information; a desire to learn how to generalize application across teaching/learning environments. Further, participation in Advanced Workshops is reserved for professionals invited to apply by either Autism Partnership Clinical Supervisors or Psychologists. Prior participation in an Introductory Level Workshop is also required. For information about Introductory Level Workshops, please contact Tracey Cortez at (562) 431-9293, extension 110.
Behavior Intervention Workshop This workshop focuses on positive, proactive and practical behavioral strategies for addressing disruptive behaviors. Details include the design, implementation, rationales and evaluation of systematic behavior plans. Participants will augment their A.B.A. experience when assessing and identifying the possible functions of disruptive behaviors. A variety of behavioral scenarios will be presented to help participants apply the application of A.B.A. strategies and techniques. Based upon in-depth functional assessments, participants will design specific behavior programs to address disruptive behaviors. Those programs will include strategies designed to reduce disruptive behaviors and, more importantly, teach appropriate replacement skills. Finally, data collection will be discussed so the effectiveness of programs can be evaluated.
Curriculum Workshop This workshop is designed to highlight and further the understanding of critical considerations when developing comprehensive treatment plans. Curriculum, as individualized A.B.A. instructional content, will be discussed in detail. Participants will evaluate and assess students’ curricular and programming needs and develop a highly individualized and comprehensive treatment plan. This will involve identifying the students learning style, skill strengths and weakness, and behavioral deficits. Participants will learn to select programs addressing student needs across a wide variety of skill domains (for example: communication, language, functional, vocational, leisure/play, social and behavioral control, etc.) and individualize that curricula based upon specific, individual student characteristics. Participants will identify treatment objectives for programs and how these are critical in the curricula selection process. Considerations for program refinement and supervision will also be discussed. For additional information, please contact Jon Rafuse, M.A., at (562) 431-9293, ext. 155
